SNES Classic Mini
Back in April of this year, Eurogamer published an article with rumours of Nintendo releasing another mini classic console – this time, the SNES. Just after two months of the article being published, Nintendo have finally announced that they will be releasing a mini SNES at the end of September.
The modern remake of the classic SNES console will include 21 pre-loaded games which can all be played in HD via the HDMI cable to the system. The star of the list of games has shown to be Star Fox 2 – the previously unreleased sequel to the popular SNES game Star Fox.

Though highly anticipated, the announcement of the SNES classic is worrying many within the gaming community. Most of these stem from the overriding problems of the NES mini, which Nintendo released at the end of last year.
To start, the mini NES received negative feedback over the mere 30 games provided with the mini console. Now we know the full line-up of games for the mini SNES is only 21 – it seems they have made even further cut-backs to the games on the system.
Another worry amongst the gaming community is the length of the controllers; as the NES mini came with wired controllers that were a whopping 5-feet shorter than the original consoles. As the cables are connected to the console, there was an overwhelming negative response to the length and the close distance that people had to sit to play their NES classic!
Since time of writing, a Nintendo representative has announced that the new mini-console will have 5-foot cables on the controllers rather than the mere 3-foot cables from the mini NES.
Arguably the largest potential issue surrounding the console is the availability. As found with Nintendo’s release of Amiibos, the NES mini and the Switch, all of these have been under limited release. Many have accused the company on wanting to create limited edition products rather than supplying for all.
Nintendo have announced that they will be producing more consoles then they did for the mini NES. Although they refused to give an estimate to how many consoles. Furthermore, they have announced that the console will ship from September 29th to the end of the year, with no mention on their plans next year regarding the future of the console as of yet.
In the past, these limited runs and short supplies have led to Nintendo products being sold at extortionate prices on re-seller sites such as eBay. For example, the NES mini had an RRP of £59.99 in America and can now only be found for £100 plus at a minimum! It looks like the SNES mini could also be heading the same way, with the not-yet-released console already appearing on re-seller sites for over £200 (with an original RRP of £70)!
