Come See Our Arcade Machines @ Eurogamer 2011

Great news folks…

Bespoke Arcades has just been invited to exhibit our amazing arcade cabinets at the UK’s largest and most prestigious arcade machine expo – The Eurogamer Expo 2011.

Taking place September 22–25 at the world-famous Earls Court Exhibition Centre, the Expo features playable versions of the most anticipated games for this Christmas and beyond. This is the main event in the UK for video games companies to launch games; it will feature exclusive games from Sony, Sega, Konami, EA, Microsoft, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Namco Bandai, and many more.

Brought to you by the people behind Eurogamer, the Eurogamer Expo is once again earning its title as the UK’s biggest dedicated video games event and is already half way to being sold out. With 15,000 tickets snapped up since going on sale in March, this year’s event is guaranteed to be bigger and better than last year’s which was attended by over 20,000 people.

One of the unique appeals of this expo is the fact that several of the world’s most talented developers will present their work directly to the public in the massive auditorium. There will also be tournaments, great prizes to be won, independent games and the Career Fair.

We shall be presenting all of our arcade machines in the “Retro Zone”. This area (as the name suggests) will host classic arcade machines and games for all your nostalgic pleasure. With at least 1 of each of our arcade cabinets on display – including a very special limited edition iPod-compatible Evo Elite with trackball (pictured) – this is the perfect opportunity to come and test drive our products. As all of our arcade machines come with over 350 classic arcade games pre-loaded as standard, this is your chance to come and re-live your youth or discover classics from a by-gone era.

We shall be adding more details and launching mini-competitions to win pairs of tickets closer to the time, so watch this space if you fancy coming along as our guest….

…and as always… HAPPY GAMING!!

Followers of our blog know what an amazing resource we have been providing to arcade machine and gaming enthusiasts since it was launched at the end of March this year. Recently we’ve been devoting a good amount of time to boosting our presence on social networking sites. We have principally done this through our newly-created Facebook and Twitter pages as most people statistically use one, the other, or both on a daily basis.

As our pages are in their infancy, we’ve been racking our brains to think of a way to promote them and offer some kind of reward to those who have taken the time to “like”/”follow” us. Therefore it is with great pride and fanfare that we are officially launching our 1st ever Facebook Competition!

….”And what is the prize exactly?” I hear you ask….

The prize is one of our phenomenal multi-award-winning stand-up arcade machines – The Apex Play arcade machine worth well in excess of £2,000 (see right). Coming pre-loaded with over 350 classic arcade games, this beast is guaranteed to keep even the most dedicated gamer hooked for years. Entering the competition could not be more simple – follow this link to our Facebook Page and click “like” – That’s it!!

Once our page has amassed 1,000 fans, we’ll put all 1,000 names in a hat and draw out 1 very lucky winner who will be invited down to our workshop for a presentation and photoshoot.

Through the Bespoke Arcades Facebook page, we aim to keep you up-to-date with all our latest technological inventions – of which there are many. We will let you know about any corporate tie-ins which we are doing (such as our Apex being used in a Sky TV advert or our exclusive Mortal Kombat IX arcade cabinets commissioned by Warner Bros) and events which we are involved with (such as the club night we sponsor or shows we are exhibiting at). We will also bring you the latest games news from around the planet.

Facebook is a great way to stay on top of all that we have to offer and win great prizes at the same time. To go with the main prize, we will also be randomly giving away smaller gifts such as copies of games, tickets to events and promotional discounts exclusive to the group. So get recommending this page to your friends, family and casual acquaintances – there’s nothing to lose and incredible prizes to win. A similar competition is planned for Twitter in the near future, so get following us there to double your chances of winning!

Evo Arcade Machine with Light-gun in Action

Hi guys! Just thought we’d upload a photo of our Evo Elite arcade cabinet in action, using the light-gun.

House of the Dead 3 with lightgun on Evo Elite arcade machine in whiteAs you can see, PS3 smash House of the Dead 3 is running on one of our top-of-the-range Evo Elite arcade machines. Not that our invention was ever doubted, but it’s always nice to show results.

As you can see, it connects through the USB port on the front. For a full explanation on how the light-guns connect to our fabulous arcade machines, then we recommend that you read the original blog post which we wrote a couple of weeks ago. For a list of our favourite light-gun games which can be played on our arcade cabinets, complete with our critique of these classic arcade games, check out our previous blog post: Top 3 Light-gun Games For Our Arcade Machines.

Top 3 Light-gun Games For Our Arcade Machines

As we mentioned in last week’s blog post, light-guns can now be installed on the Media and Elite models of our Evo and Apex arcade cabinets. Now you can play these amazing shoot ‘em up titles the way which they were designed to be played – on an arcade machine with a massive HD screen!! Following on from last week’s light-gun compatibility article, we thought we’d give you our top 3 light-gun games available to play on our fabulous arcade machines:

1 – House of the Dead III:

classic arcade game house of the dead 3
House of the Dead III is our favourite light-gun shooter as it’s quite simply a joy to play. Carrying on from where House of the Dead II left off, the latest incarnation is packed with new features such as the ability to choose which stage to challenge next. House of the Dead 3 takes you on a thrilling action adventure of cinematic proportions full of spectacular surprises and emotional encounters. This is never more true than when playing it on one of our incredible Evo arcade machines which comes with a Massive 28″ over HD display.
Our light-guns provide you with the pinpoint accuracy you need to mow down all your enemies at will. As this is a fully fledged PC title, it runs at a smooth 30 fps (frames per sec) with all of the settings maxed out. It looks and plays divine! We are all hooked on this game and think that it is possibly one of the best games ever made on any platform.

2 – Operation Wolf / Operation Thunderbolt:

Operation Thunderbolt retro arcade game on the Amstrad CPC 6128Operation Wolf retro arcade game on the Amstrad CPC 6128 Here at Bespoke Arcades, we all have fond memories of both Operation Wolf and the sequel, Operation Thunderbolt on the Amstrad CPC 6128; however the Quickshot didn’t really do the game justice. Back in ’87 when this game launched in the arcades it looked phenomenal.
As long as you don’t shoot the civilians, you can blow up everything you see on the screen – from tanks to sentry towers – this was all new back then. These games have aged extremely well and are as playable as ever. These 2 retro arcade games were amongst the defining games in the genre, opening the doors for all the ‘on rails shooters’ that followed.

3 – Time Crisis IV (PS3):

Now we jump to the present. Time Crisis IV for the Sony PS3 is a great game, replete with next generation splendour; it’s fast, frenetic, and tons of fun. As with all Time Crisis games, the cover system is in use. This allows you to duck in and out of the line of fire. This function provides a great addition to the game play and is a true favourite among our Evo arcade machine customers.
The Time Crisis series has always evolved in tandem with the technologies available, and the series has continued to strive for originality whilst pushing graphics forward, although some of their efforts seem a tad misguided at times. The supplied G-con light-gun has been redesigned and does feel a tad plastic (the day-glow orange doesn’t help). The new design incorporates an analogue thumb pad to provide movement controls for the free-roaming mini game where the player can roam freely while dealing justice to all. We aren’t keen, but these are minor gripes as the main game is a testament to the series.
This game on an Evo has one of the biggest WOW factors of any games.

All our arcade machines come with Operation Wolf & Operation Thunderbolt pre-loaded. Copies of Time Crisis IV and House of the Dead III can be supplied upon purchase of any of our arcade machines – just let us know and we’ll set it up – their mere existence is reason enough to get the light-gun upgrade!! Mortal Kombat 9 Continues To Chart After 2 Months

Sales figures just released by the NPD Group (formerly the National Purchase Diary) show that the continued popularity of the Mortal Kombat franchise helped drive global console and software sales figures in April 2011.

mortal kombat 9 arcade machinesUpon launching, Mk9 sold 900,000 copies in April 2011 alone; making it the top game seller globally and marking a successful return to the market for the fighting franchise after a long absence. These sales figures had a major contribution towards the 20% global spike in growth in the sector, compared to the same period last year. This growth could however not be sustained with the game industry failing to maintain 2 consecutive months of sales growth – total sales for May 2011 fell 14% on last year to $743.1m. With very few games released onto the market when compared to May 2010, Mortal Kombat 9 was still in the top 5 world sellers list for May 2011.

L.A. Noire placed atop NPD’s software sales charts last month, the second time in as many years that Rockstar have topped the charts in May. Here’s NPD’s list of top selling games for May 2011 – please note that NPD no longer publicly releases unit sales numbers.

Title (Platforms) – Publisher

1. L.A. Noire (360, PS3) – Rockstar Games
2. Brink (360, PS3, PC) – Bethesda Softworks
3. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (360, PS3, PSP, Wii, 3DS, DS, PC) – Disney Interactive Studios
4. Portal 2 (360, PS3, PC) – EA Partners
5. Mortal Kombat 9 (360, PS3) – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
6. Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, DS, Wii, PC) – Activision
7. Zumba Fitness (360, PS3, Wii) – Majesco
8. NBA 2K11 (360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP, PC) – Take-Two Interactive
9. Just Dance 2 (Wii) – Ubisoft
10. Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (Wii, 360, DS, PS3, 3DS, PSP, PC) – LucasArts

We are very proud of our association with Warner Brothers on the launch of Mortal Kombat 9 and look forward to further collaborations with them in the future. Making the arcade cabinets was great fun; as was watching so many people take part in the competitions.
