Persuade the better half…

For this week’s blog we’ll be focusing on the best tactics to persuade the better half into getting a dream home arcade machine. At the end of the day she has the power to deny you the arcade machine you crave. So here are some good pointers to make sure this never happens to you:

No longer will you have to have all your old consoles strewn about the place. Everything can now be housed within the technological marvel that is your very own arcade cabinet!

You can spend some great quality time playing some video games with the kids. Which will give Mum a quick break. Kids of all ages love retro games and Dad has a chance of winning for once!

Vent some aggression at each other via the boundaries of an arcade game. No one gets hurt and good, healthy fun can be had by all.

Your arcade machine can also double up as a Jukebox or even a Karaoke station. Your arcade machine would be the life and soul of any party. And all controls can be accessed via the joystick and arcade buttons.

A Bespoke Arcades machine can be finished in any colour or veneer. We can tailor-make your cabinet to your (or your wife’s) exacting specifications. Your arcade machine can therefore blend in with your wife’s artistic vision!

All games can be played on our machines, if your wife’s game of choice is Angry Birds- no worries, they’re all compatible with a Bespoke Arcades machine along with thousands of other titles past and present. Casual gamers can also be at home with a versatile Bespoke Arcades machine.

Use your machine as a multimedia/download station. As an extra option we can install an HDMI output so you can curl up on the sofa, start Netflix and watch a dry rom-com…

Happy wife, Happy life!

4 Steam games which work great on your arcade machine

Hi there. For this week’s blog, I thought id suggest a few games that work like a charm on your arcade machine via Steam. Steam is a fantastic, easy to use service which allows you to buy games and takes the know how out of installing your new games. Think of it as Xbox Live for your PC. So here goes:

Streetfighter X Tekken
A game that either fan base thought would never happen. This is a team-based one one on one fighting game which is remarkably deep when all the many variables are mastered. This is a game which truly pushed the genre into new realms. Gameplay is different from Streetfighter IV which concentrates on precise combos, in SFXT, the gamer has so string buttons together (much like Killer Instinct. Well worth a quick spar!

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX
So lets get ready for a 30 year update of one of the most famous games of all time. This reinvention is a colourful escapade building on the classic formula. One new addition is the sleeping ghost which only chases when passed by. The DX update allows players to challenge each other as well as improve global leaderboards. This game is right at home on your arcade machine and is always a firm favourite at parties.

Nights into Dreams
A Hi res port of the psychedelic Sega masterpiece, take a flying roller coaster ride throughout the 7 levels. It’s quite hard to say whether its a platformer or racing game which could be why its overlooked so often. Definitely worth giving this remake a whirl.

Injustice- Gods Among Us
Rarely has a game with no previous pedigree created such a storm as Injustice has amongst fighting game aficionados. The DC comic book franchise has provided a perfect basis to create a wonderful tour de force of the traditional fighting game. The graphics and general design of the game is perfect and wonderfully different from the game’s contemporaries- dark and sombre and extremely polished. This game works like a charm on our machines, so much so- Warner Bros went around the country with Nu-Gen arcade machines made by yours truly. And obviously preformed flawlessly satisfying the thirst of those hardcore fans.

So if you have a Media or Elite machine and you feel like playing some new games- take a look at Steam.

5 Games To Play On Your Arcade

Firstly let us apologise for the lack of blogs. This is due to our hectic workload and the relocation of our workshop. But its all sorted and we’ve survived another Christmas so we’re back on track! For this week’s blog I thought id mention 5 great arcade games that play fantastically on your Media or Elite arcade machine.

Crazy Taxi trilogy
If you feel like stepping back to their heyday of modern arcade gaming and a time when Sega’s AM2 division were pumping out original games then take a look at Crazy Taxi 1 , 2 and 3.

Simply drop your passenger off within their alloted time limit and get there anyway you can. Think of it as a friendly arcade format Grand Theft Auto where no one gets killed and you can perform 1080 style stunts on the way. Its immensely stylised California-esque locale and the low poly count suits the design perfectly. To get the most out of this game, I would recommend plugging in a 360 pad so you can get some analogue action going.

House Of The Dead Series
Always a firm favourite when a lightgun is in their mix. Watch the cheesy nightmare unfold as you dismember hordes of zombies with your trusty pinpoint lightgun at your side. This is always a showstopper thanks to the ability to ramp up the resolution to maximum and running at a silky smooth 60 frames per second.

Operation Wolf
Let’s take a step back to take a gander and take a look at one of the gun genre’s originators. This game was a firm favourite with arcade goers back in the day and it was easy to see why. It takes a keen eyes and a fair bit of skill to progress through the various levels and rescue the hostages. I remember playing the Amstrad cpc version via my trusty quickshot joystick and never being able to reach level 3.

With one of our modern lightguns at the ready you have the best chance possible to be the John Rambo of the arcade world! It’s available as part of the Taito Legends game pack and is available here

Street fighter IV Arcade Edition
Play the game which jump started the life back into the fighting game genre. The company which started it all delivers the next generation of one on one fighting games and it’s instant hit.

This latest update exceeds the console versions as you can again increase the resolution to its full settings, set all the parameters to maximum and the characters look like they’ve been lifted from a Pixar movie. However if you are a console fan- you can always play via the PS3 or Xbox 360 if you purchased a compatibility upgrade when purchasing one of our machines but in my humble opinion- the pc version is superior.

Virtua Tennis series
Another of Sega’s seminal franchises- Virtual Tennis brings the tennis circuit to your very own arcade machine. The latest Virtual Tennis doesn’t stray from the originals winning formula and is a great 2 player experience where rallies regularly ensue- each volley becomes increasingly important and can result in raised voices (to put it politely). A great example of a modern arcade game which can stand the test of time.
