Aliens Arcade

Happy Alien Day everyone! To celebrate we have a special blog all about the hit arcade game Aliens (based off of the film of the same name).

Following the events of the film, this side-scrolling shooter allows the player to play as Ripley or Hicks in hope of killing off the Xenomorph’s and their queen.

Those who will be wanting to play as Ripley probably won’t recognise her, as the in-game character has blonde hair rather than Sigourney Weaver’s famous dark hair. It is widely unknown why this was, with promotional posters for the arcade game featuring a different actress with blonde hair.

Using weapons including the M56 Smartgun, Rocket Launchers, Flame Throwers, Laser Improvised Weapons and Bombs – the player fights off Xenomorphs’ and even saves Newt in various levels.

Reusing alien designs from the film means that a variety of your favourite aliens feature in the game. You will encounter the likes of Warriors, the Queen, Facehuggers and Chestbursters.

However, Konami also designed their own Xenomorph’s for the game, which tend to look extremely different to the original concepts and even feature some resemblance to spiders. These game designed aliens included abilities to fly, shoot lasers and have tentacles!

As with many arcade games, the Western release differs massively from its Japanese counterpart. With the Japanese release seeing a more true-to-film and darker alien colouring and design and completely removing Newt from the game.

Here at Bespoke Arcades we’ll definitely be playing this truly awesome Aliens arcade game today! How will you be celebrating Aliens Day? Be sure to let us know!
